Choose your own adventure

You might use just one question to start your journey today. You could also select a couple of questions for the same work of art or move to different works for each prompt.

  1. Select a work of art. Think or discuss what is happening in the work of art. What are some questions you have about the subject matter or technique? If you could ask the artist one question what would it be?
  2. If this work of art were an animal, what would it be and why?
  3. Assign a soundtrack to a work of art. What type of music would you select and why?
  4. A family member has asked you to select a work of art to be purchased for their home. Identify a work of art that you think would be suitable and explain why you think it was a good choice.
  5. What can you say about the contemporary art you may have encountered? Name 5 things you noticed.
  6. Slow down the pace at which you look at a work of art. Imagine stepping into the image. What would the place look like? What would the atmosphere feel like? What sounds can you hear? What does this place smell like?
  7. If an artist conceives an idea, but employs a specialist to create a work of art, whose work is it? What is more important, idea or product?
  8. Find a work of art that is both beautiful and unappealing. How is it simultaneously beautiful and unappealing?
  9. What is the difference between an artist, a designer and a craftsperson? Find examples of each and explain your answer.
  10. Go back to the work of art you first looked at today. What do you notice now that you didn't notice before.
