Getting Around the Gallery
Accessible entry is through the North Terrace entrance, and the three gates that surround the rear courtyard.
AGSA was originally built in 1881, with new additions in 1996. All areas of the gallery and public areas of interest are accessible, however people with access requirements may be required to take alternate paths via ramps, lifts and specific gallery wheelchair lifts.
Benches and soft round lounges are found throughout the gallery spaces.
We welcome guide dogs and assistance dogs. Water is available in the AGSA courtyard.
Wheelchair and walker hire
Self propelled and push wheelchairs, and walkers can be borrowed free of charge while visiting the Gallery. Telephone (08) 8207 7000 and press option 6 to speak to Security staff to reserve one prior to your visit. These can be borrowed from either Cloaking desks located in the Vestibule (front entrance), or Atrium (rear entrance). Presentation of valid ID required.
Access Parking and Transportation
Accessible parking is available nearby at:
- Wilson Parking, North Terrace, level 1 near lift (parking fees apply), 80 metres from the Gallery.
- U-Park, Gawler Place, every level near lift (parking fees apply), 300 metres from the Gallery.
- Adelaide University, north side of Physics Building – enter by Gate 13 off Kintore Avenue (free but only three spaces, subject to availability), 80 metres from the Gallery. A valid disability parking permit must be displayed.
Alternatively, bus and tram services provide access in close proximity to the Gallery.
Access Bathrooms
Access bathrooms are located in the Vestibule (front entrance) and the Atrium Breezeway (next to the cloaking desk) and paper towel dispensers are available as an sensory-friendly alternative to automatic hand dryers.
There are no adult accessible change facilities currently available.
Quiet spaces
While there are no dedicated quiet spaces in AGSA, we recommend visitors bring their own equipment eg ear defenders and seek quieter and less patronised areas of the gallery, or courtyard.
Social Stories for gallery visits and programs are currently under development.
Exhibitions and Programs
Where possible large print wall label text is available for selected exhibitions as well as Deaf-led, Auslan interpreted, audio described tours, and quiet session programming. Information available via our What's On page.
