Transforming Techniques - By Request

Select from one of our following Transforming Techniques workshops that you can request for your senior secondary students.

Anatomy

Flesh out your drawing practice! Develop your knowledge of the skeleton, the muscular system and its functions through anatomical objects. After analysing images of works of art by artists such as Hans Heysen & Robert Hannaford, students will begin a series of anatomical drawings exploring structure, proportion and functionality. These drawings will lead to a final drawing based on a still life set up.

Portraiture

View images of works of art by artists such as Paul Beadle, Dora Chapman, Robert Hannaford & Nora Heysen and examine their mark making techniques. Students will be guided through a series of drawings exploring facial features, mark making, structure, facial planes and tone before beginning their final self-portrait (mirrors required) or a portrait of another class member.

Colour and Composition

Students will be shown examples of still life paintings from works of art in the collection and examine compositional techniques. Students will learn about the fundamentals of composition and colour theory and how to apply these skills whilst drawing from life.

Mixed Media: nature, art and deign

Drawing inspiration from the work of William Morris and the Arts and Crafts movement, students will create their own nature-inspired botanical design. Following a tour of the Gallery's Morris & Co. collection, students will be guided through exercises experimenting with colour, pattern and line in mixed media techniques. These exercises will conclude with a final mixed media nature-inspired design.

Life Drawing

Explore the practice and principles of drawing the human form. View works by Hans Heysen Ivor Hele, Godfrey Miller & Jeffrey Smart and experiment with anatomically correct renderings to loose expressive sketches while learning from the human figure. A nude model is supplied for Life Drawing to give students the opportunity to develop observational techniques that will enhance their drawing practice. Students will be led through a series of drawing exercises exploring different short poses and then finish with a major drawing from one long pose.

Please note: Life Drawing workshops incur an additional $200 fee for the life model.

• One full day tuition from a South Australian artist (select from one of the above workshops)
• All materials

Students will keep their material packs so they can continue with their work beyond the workshop.

We encourage teachers to participate in the workshop however the teacher is responsible for duty of care and behaviour management of the class and must be present for the duration of the session.

Duration: 10am-2pm

Cost: $800 per class group, $700 per equity class group (maximum of 20 students)
