Year 2 students from West Lakes Shore School created self portraits inspired by South Australian artist Dora Chapman.

The students were show portraits by Chapman using AGSA's online collection, learning about the importance of the 'gaze' and Chapman's unique combination of figuration and abstraction. The students used the Crayola Colours of the World skin tone sets of markers to colour in their faces using the tones of their own, their family and friends skin colours. As a class, they discussed directionality when making marks and colouring in, especially with markers. - Lisa Zappia, Visual Arts Teacher
