Underwater etchings inspired by Erin Coates and Anna Nazzari

This year in response to the theme Deep Blue for National Science Week Year 8 students at Woodcroft College explored the work of Erin Coates and Anna Nazzari. Inspired by the underwater scenes that these artists created, students produced their own drawings of deep-sea creatures at the bottom of the ocean.

Students then recycled the inside of Tetra Pak juice cartons and transformed their drawings into etchings by cutting and carving into the surface of the packaging lining. They cut the lining away where they wanted dark tones and scratched the surface with an etching tool to achieve line and detail. These images were then printed onto watercolour paper using Intaglio etching ink. - Coral Winterbourn, Head of Art Woodcroft College
