Milingimbi Art and Culture
Yurrwi (Milingimbi), NT
Milingimbi Art and Culture is located on a small island named Yurrwi, just off the Arnhem Land coast of the Northern Territory, about 400 kilometres east of Darwin. The community has a long tradition of producing high-quality bark paintings, carvings and weavings, which are made exclusively with locally harvested natural materials. The diverse culture of the community has been influenced by long-term contact with traders from Sulawesi and the coming together of more than 12 clans from both the freshwater country of the mainland and the saltwater country of the coast and the Crocodile Islands.
