A continuous celebration of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art

Tarnanthi in 2026 showcases the cultural depth and creative diversity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art through a wide-ranging program of exhibitions and displays, reaching audiences in Adelaide, around South Australia and across the nation.

The program also includes artistic projects, musical performances, film screenings, artist talks, education workshops and activities for students and teachers, and more.

This year Tarnanthi expands its nation-leading program of original touring exhibitions of First Nations art with Too Deadly, Tarnanthi’s nineth travelling exhibition. Comprising a selection of around forty works, Too Deadly shares with new audiences in four states the creative excellence of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art seen over the past decade at the Tarnanthi Festival in Adelaide. Its two-year tour travels to Queensland and New South Wales this year.

In addition, the award-winning Regional Tarnanthi exhibition Saltbush Country continues its statewide tour, revealing the art, culture, knowledge and experiences of regional First Nations women to regional South Australian communities.

Tarnanthi is presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia with Principal Partner BHP and support from the Government of South Australia.

The Saltbush Country regional tour is presented by Country Arts SA. The exhibition was first developed and presented as a partnership between Country Arts SA, Tarnanthi and the Art Gallery of South Australia, with support from Tarnanthi Principal Partner BHP.
