Rewriting Landscapes offers a First Nations reinscription of Country. This exhibition challenges entrenched visual traditions, featuring contemporary Aboriginal artists whose work reclaims representation through photography and video. The works dismantle colonial narratives around the trope of ‘the figure in the landscape’, asserting a sovereign First Nations epistemology. Artists use modern mediums to articulate Country as a sentient, living entity, offering new perspectives in testament to continuously living culture and kinetic storytelling, fostering deep respect for First Nations ways of seeing, being and understanding the land.
