This exhibition signals the public debut of Umoona Arts, an art centre that began this year at Coober Pedy in the far north of South Australia. The work of the Umoona artists spans a variety of mediums – from paintings in acrylic on linen, to punu (woodwork), tjanpi (grass and fibre weaving) and ceramics – created in diverse styles, with vibrant use of colour and energetic mark-making. The artists, from Umoona Community, come from the Coober Pedy region and from peoples across the Central Desert, many with family members who work at art centres on the APY Lands.
