Anniebell Marrngamarrnga is a senior Kuninjku artist from Kakodbebuldi in western Central Arnhem Land. She is renowned for her large-scale, flat fibre depictions of her late husband’s ancestral story of the Yawkyawk – a water spirit with the torso of a woman and the tail of a fish, who lives in the freshwater streams and rock pools of Kubumi. Anniebell uses materials from her natural environment, such as pandanus leaves and botanical dyes, and employs techniques for making baskets and dilly bags to craft her finely woven creations. This is her first solo exhibition in South Australia.
