The opening ceremonies of Tarnanthi: Festival of Contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art take place on the North Terrace, 6pm 8 October 2015.

The launch begins with a Welcome to Country by Kaurna elder Dr Uncle Lewis Yerloburka O’Brien AO followed by a Kaurna ceremonial opening by Stephen Gadlabarti Goldsmith and his dance troupe Taikurtinna.

Hosted by Lee-Ann Tjunypa Buckskin and Klynton Wanganeen, co-chairs of the Tarnanthi Cultural Advisory Committee, the opening ceremonies include Tarnanthi Cultural Advisory Committee member and Ernabella artist Alison Mylika Carroll, welcoming artists in both Pitjantjatjara and English; speakers Jacqui McGill on behalf of Principal Sponsor BHP Billiton; the Premier the Hon Jay Weatherill MP and the official opening speech by former Prime Minister of Australia the Hon Paul Keating, and the award-winning two-woman band Stiff Gins performing throughout the evening.

Tarnanthi: Festival of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art is presented by the Art Gallery of South Australia with support from Arts SA, Government of South Australia and Principal Partner BHP.
