In 1997 Nalini Malani presented a solo exhibition and collaborated with Anuradha Kapur to present a theatre production of Bertolt Brecht’s play, The Job in Mumbai. The narrative centres on a woman who disguised herself as a man to work in a factory, only to be discovered four years later. Malani made a series of installations including reverse painted Mylar cylinders and a hand drawn charcoal and water colour stop-motion animation to capture the story of secrecy and transformation. The video on display is a documentary of the collaboration, which was written and directed by Nalini Malani.
