Julie Nangala Robertson is a Warlpiri artist born on Arrernte Country in Mparntwe/Alice Springs, Northern Territory, in 1973. She currently lives and works on her ancestral Warlpiri Country in Yuendumu, Northern Territory.

As a leading contemporary practitioner within her community, Robertson is known for her intricate dotting techniques and her deep visual engagement with Mina Mina Jukurrpa, a significant women’s Dreaming.

Robertson’s paintings immerse viewers in sweeping fields of ancestral vision. Her signature bands of finely repeated dot work create a powerful sense of movement and scale, capturing both the vast and intimate dimensions of Mina Mina Jukurrpa.

Across these works, the constellation-like patterning marks the journeys taken by ancestral women during creation time. The rhythmic flow evokes ceremonial dance, the traces of digging sticks used to gather food and reveal water sources, and the deep interconnectedness of Country — along with the many responsibilities carried within it.
