Emily Floyd’s sculptural installation Icelandic Puffins, 2017, draws attention to the case of Iceland, a country whose citizens experienced the Global Financial Crisis of 2008−09 as a very real catastrophe…. Floyd, who has made her practice exploring well-known and obscure histories of political and social activism, dramatises the recent history of Iceland as both a warning and an exemplar. Her installation can be interpreted as an example of how Iceland’s existing systems, which had been brought to a point of collapse, were restored through law and democratic process.
