Yarning about Song
First Nations musicians, artists and songwriters share their experiences on the importance of song in Australian Aboriginal culture. Contemporary singer-songwriter Nathan May centres his music on connection to country, family, and truth-telling. Artist Colleen Raven Strangways works with photography to capture the resilience, spirituality and beauty that define Aboriginal communities. Colleen's recent work UV Songlines: Illuminating Ancestral Roots features portraits of Aboriginal people adorned with UV-reactive body paint, symbolising the ancestral songlines that weave unbroken connections to land, culture, spirit, and identity. Singer-Songwriter, Linguist & Language Revivalist Dr Corey Theatre uses his music as medium to revive language, recently Corey contributed to The Kaurna Songbook: Yurikurringa Ngadluku Paltirna with a song titled Mikawamangka.
