This First Friday learn about the epic tales and cultivated pursuits of the military elite with a tour through the exhibition Samurai, then sit back and relax in the AGSA courtyard with tunes by DJ Ruby Chew. Join curator Russell Kelty as he explores the role of music and performance in regards to the great military epic -The Tale of the Heike. And enjoy a performance by the oriental jazz ensemble San Ureshi.

Musical Performance – 6.30pm

Inspired by the Samurai exhibition, oriental jazz ensemble San Ureshi (meaning ‘joy of the trio’) perform a series of songs including a contemporary composition of The Tale of Heike, originally performed by wandering ‘lute monks’. San Ureshi’s performance features instruments endemic to China and Japan and is set against the backdrop of the Gallery’s six panel screen depicting The Tale of Heike.
