WALL LABEL: Hans Heysen: The Creative Journey, 1992
Heysen probably made this figure drawing at Calarossi’s Academy, which he attended most evenings during his stay in Paris from 1900 to 1902. There he did two to three hours of drawing from the costumed figure.
This figure was later incorporated in his illustration for the poem ‘The Magic Lute’, which appeared in The Lone Hand magazine in May 1908.
