Barbara Van Ernst International Art Fellowship
The Barbara Van Ernst International Art Fellowship is a new paid learning opportunity aimed at graduates of curatorial, museum, art or culture studies, interested in gaining knowledge and experience in working with the Art Gallery of South Australia’s (AGSA) extensive collection.
The Barbara Van Ernst International Art Fellow will be stewarded and mentored by AGSA’s expert curatorial, registration and exhibition staff while also making meaningful contributions to the development and delivery of AGSA’s 2027 Winter Arts Series exhibition.
The Barbara Van Ernst International Art Fellow will have the opportunity to learn about the complex nature of developing and delivering large-scale international projects which includes:
- Collection research, expanding on documentation and supporting materials
- Writing for expanded labels, audio tours and publication
- Exhibition design planning and delivery
- Supporting condition reporting and documentation and liaising with internal and external conservators
- Contributing to audience programming and marketing content development
- Supporting registration and exhibition functions and understanding the complexity of international programming.

The Barbara Van Ernst International Art Fellowship is generously supported by Barbara Van Ernst and her strong interest is creating opportunities for growth and development for emerging arts professionals.
The Fellowship will be supported by a once off financial stipend of $18,000.
The length of the Fellowship will be flexible to accommodate the availability of the successful applicant during the period of October 2026 – October 2027.
