Jess Dare is a contemporary jeweller and object-maker based in Adelaide. In her practice, which is influenced by the symbolism of flowers, she investigates the many uses of flowers and highlights their ability to remind us of life’s transience.

In Unspoken, Dare has created a pile of leucadendron flowers as they begin to wilt and settle into the earth, no longer in full bloom. The artist has left them uncoloured, allowing the viewer to see the maker’s marks on the work, as well as recognise the time spent creating each flower. While making this work, Dare was enduring a period of loss and grief, and her art explores the ways in which flowers are used in death rituals.
