Throughout his practice Vincent Namatjira has established himself as a celebrated portrait artist and a satirical chronicler of Australian history and identity. Vincent paints portraits of important figures from his life and those that are famously political, looking at the politics of history, power and leadership through a contemporary Aboriginal lens. 

Using humour and parody Vincent enables difficult conversations to be had; he is able to remove power from certain figures to challenge the viewer’s bias. A Western Aranda man, Namatjira is the great-grandson of renowned Ntaria watercolour painter Albert Namatjira.
