These works, photographic scenes of burnt landscapes in singed frames, reflect on the cultural significance of fire in Australia and on Indigenous care for Country through fire management. Indigenous fire management is distinct to each eco-system and historic burns were timed to ensure ideal conditions for germinating seeds and for removing dead plant material to promote new growth. This knowledge has been disrupted by colonisation, leading to increased numbers of catastrophic fire events, and it has only been in recent years that traditional burning practices have been reintroduced to parts of Australia.
