Exploring the influence botanist Sir Joseph Banks had in the colonisation of Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand, James Tylor has made daguerreotypes that recreate Banks’s cutting, gathering, measuring and recording of specimens. These compositions feature tools that are measuring, cutting or torturing the plants, similarly to how Indigenous people were treated during this time, reflecting on the brutality of colonisation.
